The Flannel Project: Officially a Registered Charity!
We are incredibly excited to announce that The Flannel Project has officially achieved charity status! This milestone is not just a significant step for us as an organization, but it also represents a major turning point in our ability to extend meaningful support to survivors of veteran suicide and their families.
Our Journey to Becoming a Charity
The Flannel Project was born from the need to fill a critical gap in postvention services for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, particularly in the veteran community. Our journey began with the heartbreaking loss of our dear friend Shannen, whose death deeply affected those who loved her. As we searched for answers and support, it became evident that there was little structured assistance for those left behind after a veteran suicide.
From those initial conversations, we realized how important it was to create something lasting and impactful. That’s when the idea of The Flannel Project took root, and over time, we built it into what it is today—an organisation dedicated to providing postvention care through initiatives like the SOS Flannel Card.
What Does Charity Status Mean for The Flannel Project?
Now that we’re officially a registered charity, we can take our mission even further. This status allows us to:
Expand our services: With charity status, we can now access more resources and funding opportunities to grow our programs and reach more survivors across Queensland, particularly those in rural, regional, and remote areas.
Partner with more organisations: Being a registered charity opens the door to collaborate with even more service providers, community organisations, and businesses who share our vision.
Enhance transparency and accountability: As a charity, we are committed to maintaining high standards of governance, ensuring that every dollar raised goes directly towards supporting survivors and their families.
Looking Ahead
Our new charity status strengthens our resolve to continue advocating for better postvention services and creating programs that directly support those deeply impacted by veteran suicide. The SOS Flannel Card is just the beginning of what we aim to achieve. This initiative provides survivors with mental health, emotional, and practical care, offering them a path forward as they navigate their grief.
We are grateful for all the support we’ve received along the way. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or have recently joined our cause, thank you for believing in The Flannel Project and in the difference we can make together.
